Technological Influences

Forms of technological change which have influenced (or even enabled) tourism include:

- Information technology – Technology is changing the way people choose their destination as the internet enables effective research into the location, and the tourist can experience the location before arriving. Tourists can book their accommodation, book flights and tours by using apps and websites. Technology is also changing the way tourists record their experiences e.g. digital cameras, camcorders and CDs. Technology also changes the way in which the tourist operators handle and store information related to the company (finances, bookings, etc) and customers.

- Transport technologies
Aircraft, land transport and sea transport have all been enhanced by technology.
competition among transport manufacturers results in better vehicle capabilities in terms of size, seat capacity, speed, range, fuel efficiency, noise level, comfort.
The development of the Boeing 747s – reduced the cost of travel and enabled mass movement to regions previously considered “too far removed”.

Time/Space - reduced travel and communication times

- Industrial technology – provided steam power for air, road and off-road vehicles
