Plan your teaching

Determine how many weeks you have with your class (usually 10 weeks per term minus camps, excursions and exam periods). Shade in the exam periods or weeks miseed for other reasons.

Divide the weeks up dependent on how many topics you have. Eg 38 weeks divided by 3 topics. (roughly 12 or 13 weeks per topic), or 38 weeks divided by 4 topics (10.5 weeks per topic). Label the weeks with the course topic.

Write in the assessment tasks that are planned for the year.
Divide up the content and outcomes and allocate each to a week. You should also do this for ict skills, research skills or any other items in your syllabus.
You should cross-reference your document with the subject teaching and learning program and make changes to either document so that they match. See Programming.
Show your planner to other teachers teaching the same subject. Thay may advise you of missing details. Revise your planner.
You will find that each week you will need to cover several items of content, skills and outcomes.
You are now in a position to begin planning your individual lessons. See Lesson Planning.
Share your planner with the rest of your faculty so that you are all teaching the same things at the same time. Hopefully other staff member will share their planners with you for other subjects.
